Leveling up Indie Game Education: Nfts Launches New Courses
Exciting New Offerings at NFTS
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is stepping up its game with the introduction of two innovative courses: an MA in Animation for Film and Games and a Certificate in Indie Games Development. This expansion is all about nurturing the next generation of creative technologists and indie game developers, making it an essential stop for aspiring creators. The MA aims to build on NFTS’s renowned animation pedigree, while the Indie Games Development certificate will equip students with the skills to launch their own game studios.
Hands-On Learning and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Already known for its MFA in Games Design and Development, NFTS emphasizes collaboration across various disciplines. Students have the opportunity to work closely with peers from screenwriting, VFX, composing, and sound design. This cross-pollination of ideas not only enriches the learning experience but also allows students to create games with genuine character and personality. André van Rooijen, head of Game Design and Development, notes that “the benefits are mutual: games students gain access to bespoke content, while animation and other specialists see their work integrated into real-world production pipelines.”
Future-Proofing with Facilities Expansion
These new courses coincide with a significant expansion of Beaconsfield Studios, which will add 25,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art facilities by 2027. Funded by a mix of government and private investments, this expansion will boost student capacity by 25% and enhance the overall learning environment. With advanced computer labs and collaborative spaces, NFTS is set to become a powerhouse for indie game education in the UK.
